globalization of its operations, they are seeking to hire a Manager, Trade/Customs Compliance in the
Metro Detroit region.
Your experience and proven track record within the automotive industry sector will be a strong
factor in determining the interest level of the client. This industry sector is known to
have complex bills of materials and related NAFTA certification and qualifications requirements.
Your experience either in trade/customs compliance in a trade compliance firm or in manufacturing or
customs consulting would be fully utilized in this environment.

- Manage the company's processes and procedures in compliance with
US, Canadian and Mexican legislation and reporting requirements.
- Understanding complex rules of origin contained in NAFTA and the implementation of qualifying product
lines for NAFTA eligibility by analyzing bills of material and the creation of audit trails.
- Oversee/Perform tariff classification reviews to ensure goods are properly classified under the Harmonized
System with the lowest possible duty implications.
- Main liaison between the company and OGD officials. Involves trouble shooting problem shipments and obtaining
required information from brokers and CBSA/CBP officials.
- Serve as main intermediary between shipping companies, airlines, railroads, trucking firms, pipeline operators and the company.
- Main liaison between the company and OGD officials. Involves trouble shooting problem shipments and obtaining
required information from appointed customs brokers and CBSA/CBP officials.
- Conduct diagnostic reviews of import and export operations to ensure adequate control systems are in place for full
compliance within the parameters of customs laws and regulations, identify opportunities for duty recoveries and/or
reductions in future duty payments.
- Ensure that the company is able to successfully undergo a CBP verification audit with minimal exposure.
- Establishment of Compliance Manual and formal audit program and processes.
- In depth analysis within the NAFTA Rules of Origin and making a determination on whether or not items will qualify for
NAFTA preferential tariff treatment .
- Provide on site security assessments in relation to Customs Trade and Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) initiative
which involves interviewing key personnel and reviewing current security profile and provide recommendations on
security enhancements where needed.
- Prepare and submit advance ruling requests to CBP on behalf of the company.
- Work with the CBP to mitigate NAFTA investigation periods and reduce risk.
- Ensure that duty payments are managed effectively by applying all relevant duty relief programs and drawback opportunities available.
- Inform and educate appropriate staff on relevant changes to customs legislation as it pertains to NAFTA and related
legislative requirements
- Maintain accurate tariff database information internally and update as required.
- Assist external suppliers with missing/incomplete/inaccurate information
on NAFTA Certificate fields and all related documentation is complete
- US LCB is essential, having Canadian CCS also is ideal.
- Ideally, 10 years of working with NAFTA Certificates, HS Tariffs
Refunds, Drawbacks, Amends, Appeals and Rulings
- Experience as a liaison between the customer and Customs officials; trouble-shooting problems
related to NAFTA regulations, missing/incomplete/inaccurate fields in documentation
- Researching and qualifying of goods for NAFTA certificates using rules of origin
and other requirements, related trade compliance issues
- Excellent Communicator with Training experience; persuasive, tactful and articulate
- Familiarity with C-TPAT, PIP and AEO concepts and issues is desirable
