To effectively coordinate the movement of customer freight using company equipment, leased equipment, partner carriers, and railroads that will provide service consistent with the expectations of the company and its customers.
Forming relationships with quality intermodal carriers who will work with the company to move customer freight within the guidelines set out by the company.
Assessing the market and the traffic lanes serviced by intermodal carriers to determine availability of equipment
Effectively negotiate rates with carriers in order to remain competitive in the market while maintaining an acceptable profit margin
Communicate freight orders to partner carriers
Manage the loaded and empty drayage movement of containers and chassis using the company's and partner assets
Monitor freight moving with company equipment and partner carriers and update status of all intermodal shipments in the company, carrier and customer transportation management systems
Assist with driver & partner carrier inquiries.
Advising Customer Service promptly of any impending service failures
Soliciting new business for the company as opportunities arise
Constantly reviewing work processes and provide suggestions for improvement
Related duties as assigned by supervisor or management
Knowledge of intermodal, truckload, and LTL carriers and pricing
Current knowledge of intermodal provider internet based tracking, billing and reservations tools
Effective geographical knowledge of North America and rail network/trucking market
Make effective and timely decisions
Analyze data/situations and recognize developing trends/ problem areas
Learn rates and the rate making process and build an in depth knowledge of the domestic and international market
Strong attention to detail, organizational and planning skills
Current computer skills
Evident problem solving skills
Excellent communication skills (oral, written and listening)
Strong interpersonal skills to work in a team
Good mathematical skills
